PURPLE SMOKEY EYE

Hello there...

So a while ago I did a part time make up course so I could learn the proper way of applying make up and the rules  (in order to break them lol) .  I'm currently on a mission to improve and polish my skill so that means you can expect a lot of make up posts on this blog featuring my own face lol ....as I practice.

The great thing about "dark" skin tones is they can handle bright colors really well. So I tried this purple smokey eye look using an inexpensive palette by
L.A Girl (available at Dischem in South Africa).

The color pay off wasn't so bad at all. I paired it with a bold lip which turned out pretty well in my opinion.

STEPS:

1. I primed my eye lids with a concealer a shade lighter to my skin tone and set that with a loose powder ( this helps to keep it place for longer and improves the color pay off)

2. Apply a pink shade lightly on the crease with a fluffy blending brush as a transition shade to help with blending the main color later on.

3. Start packing the purple on the lid, starting from the inner corner and going all the way to the crease with a flat brush until you got the desired contrast making a slight wing on the outer corner

4. Picking up a little bit of the pink start blending from the crease and taking it above (not too high) to get the smokey effect. The idea behind a smokey eye is to fade out the color so you can't really see  where it ends and that requires a lot of blending. and you can alternate between clean brushes so that you don't mess it up.

5. Gently blend until you don't see any lines and are happy with how it looks and then using a very thin brush take the color to your lower lash line as well and smudge it out gently.

6. Follow with a liquid/ gel/ pencil liner and draw your wing as desired, add mascara and your eye is done

7. Apply your primer, foundation, concealer, powder, contour, blush

8. Follow with an illumnator to give you that glow finish on  your desired high points  - for me that is the top of my cheek bones - cupid's bow - tip of the nose - above the outer part of my brows.

9. Line your lips and apply your lipstick.

10. Highlight  the inner corner of your eyes with a shimmery white color to open up your eyes

11. Finish off with a powder brush just to blend everything out again to remove harsh lines and set your face with a setting spray to help keep it on all day.
